Successful Western Australian breeder Robert Watson has a huge operation with over 50 broodmares in his broodmare band.
Operating under the Soho banner, Robert is about to do what all breeders with big broodmare bands do every now and again and have a reduction sale of mixed stock on July 26th to get the operation down to a more manageable level once again.
Amongst the broodmares to be offered by Robert is the former outstanding racemare in Pelicanrama 1:53.4 ($730,271) who won 55 races during her career.
Brought back from North America, Pelicanrama has produced six live foals to date who are old enough to race for five winners including the very smart three year old filly in Soho Tokyo 1:58.7 ($131,643) and Soho Highlander 1:55.8 who right on que with the sale not far away won his 14th race at Bunbury last night.
Soho Highlander drew poorly on the second line and driver Clinton Hall settled him well back in the field before he joined the three wide train behind Soho Jackman with just over a lap to go.
Left three wide at the 600 metres, Clinton worked him to the death seat outside Soho Jackman at the 400 metres mark and was travelling the better of the two leaders.
However the favourite Our Blackbird had followed Soho Highlander everywhere he went and looked poised to sweep on bye as they turned for home.
Our Blackbird quickly got up to Soho Highlander but just couldn't get past and was still half a neck in arrears at the finishing line.
Soho Highlander paced the 2100 metres in a smart 2:31.4, a mile rate of 1:56.1 with closing sectionals of 56.9 and 28.4
A son of Bettors Delight, Soho Highlander was recording his 14th lifetime win last night and that win took his stake earnings over the $160,000 mark.
Pelicanrama was a great racemare and is starting to put together a smart record at stud and should be keenly sought after on July 26th.
