Maxiemuscle, the top Quebec-bred trotting colt from the 2013 harness racing season, is set to make his 2014 debut Tuesday at Hippodrome 3R.
The son of Angus Hall from the Promising Catch mare, Iceberg Angus, starts from post eight in the fifth race trot for driver Mario Charron and is the 5/2 morning line favorite despite starting from the far outside.
Last year was a banner season for Maxiemuscle in the Quebec Sire Stakes. Trained by Eric Valiquette, bred and owned by Ecurie Provoquante of Mirabel, QC, Maxiemuscle won five of his seven starts in 2013 and earned $45,724 in purses. He also took a lifetime mark of 1:58.1 at Mohawk Raceway early in his career.
Maxiemuscle prepped for his debut with a qualifying race at Hippodrome 3R where he finished third in 2:03.2 but did show a strong last quarter mile in :29.3.
In Tuesday’s sixth race pacing feature there are three return winners in the lineup for the extra distance 1 1/16th mile race.
Pan Larceny starts from the rail for driver Stephane Gendron and is on a three-race winning streak. Undefeated in two starts so far in 2014, last week the nine-year-old gelding led from start to finish as he does most every week and won in 2:00.4.
The Platinum Guy in post four is on a four-race winning streak. He will be driven by Denis St Pierre and has won in this extra distance class the last three weeks, the fastest winning time in 2:04.4. The third return winner in the field is Dancer’s Cam in post two for driver Stephane Brosseau. The ten-year-old gelding won his 2014 debut last week over a rainy track labeled good.
Live racing takes place at the Hippodrome 3R every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm and Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. For more information in both French and English, visit their website at www.quebecjockeyclub.com.
