High profile pacers Lombo Pocket Watch and Melpark Major have secured the first two invitations to the $200,000 'Courage Under Fire' Chariots Of Fire on August 29.
Directors of the NSW Harness Racing Club met tonight (Friday) to discuss the possibility of issuing the first of the invitations to this year's event.
and Melpark Major were widely tipped to be given the first two invites to the event, as both pacers have been racing in sensational form.
Melpark Major was brilliant in taking out tonight'sCup at Moonee Valley, where he defeated fellow Chariots hopefuls Mister Swinger and Keayang Hanover.
, impressive in winning at Newcastle last Saturday, will have one of his final hitouts before the Chariots at Menangle this Tuesday.
"The decision of the directors could be described as a formality withbeing the second fastest horse in Australasia," Dumesny said.
"While Melpark Major was simply awesome in theCup at Moonee Valley."
Further to their meeting, the Directors of the Club also stated that no further invitations would be issued prior to the running of next Friday's Paleface Adios Sprint at Harold Park.
"The directors now wish to see the rest of the contending four-year-olds compete at Harold Park," Dumesny stated.
"If history repeats itself the past decisions of the directors have been to invite those horses that competed at Harold Park."
