CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The top harness racing pacing mares in Eastern Canada will again square off this Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Saturday card kicks off at 12:30 P.M. with the top mares pace of the day lining up in race 11 for a $2,550 purse. The Time To Win comes into the race sporting a win and second in her last two starts with Corey MacPherson subbing in as the driver for trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Woodmere Farms of Marshfield.
The five-year-old daughter of Western Ideal is a three-time winner this season racing primarily at Rideau Carleton Raceway outside Ottawa. She won her Open Mares assignment on Oct. 19, and then was second to pacing horse Eagle Jolt in a mixed class in her last start.
Maritime Champion Arc Light moves into aged competition in this race but the three-year-old filly has rail control for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore, N.S. Dancers Pass (Driven by David Dowling) was a winner in her last two starts but takes on her toughest test to date in this race leaving from post 3.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac sides with The Time To Win for the top spot.
"The Time To Win was a bang up second last week despite being first up before the half so if she's able to pick up some cover today instead of providing it she'll be hard to deny," MacIsaac said.
Also in the field is Mrs Dragonfire (Adam Merner), Imagine Speed (Dale Spence), West River Ambyr (Steven Shepherd), Collective Wisdom (Ron Matheson) and Jordies Hope (Jason Hughes).
Freddie and Star Photo are set to tangle in the race 11 Open Trot for a $2,300 pot. Star Photo cruised to victory in his latest with a 28.4 final panel for the team of driver Hughes and trainer Kevin Gillis. The veteran has post 3 to start from this week while Freddie (Campbell) leaves from post 2. Labero has quietly put together a solid season with five wins, fives second and three thirds and has rail control in the class with Walter Cheverie in the seat.
Rose Run Quest Looks To Continue Dominance Sunday
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – There has been nothing standing in the way of the winner's circle for Rose Run Quest in the preferred ranks in recent week and he will look for more of the same in the featured event Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval will host racing Saturday and Sunday for the next four weeks with post time at 12:30 P.M. Sunday's 13-dash program has the preferred pace hitting the track in race 12 for a $2,900 purse. Rose Run Quest has the outside in the field of seven by virtue of his three straight victories at this level. Marc Campbell trains and drives the son of If I Can Dream for owner Blair Hansen of Charlottetown.
Nogreatmischief leaves from post 5 in the Sunday contest after a victory in the top class on closing day at Red Shores Summerside for trainer-driver Walter Cheverie. Screen Test has post 6 with Corey MacPherson at the lines after a third place finish at this level last time out.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac sees the race as Rose Run Quest's to lose.
"Rose Run Quest has been so dominant in his last three starts that you got to believe the road to the winners circle goes through him again, post seven or not," MacIsaac said.
Other entries include Varadero Hanover (Driven by Ken Murphy), Best To Hurst (Jason Hughes), IC True Grit (Mike McGuigan) and Rockin Indy (David Dowling).
The back-up pace will line up in race 11 as Souverain looks to extend his four-race win streak with rail control for driver MacPherson and owner-trainer Phil Sizer of Kensington. Other top entrants in the $2,400 class are Eagle Jolt (Campbell) and Bank Of Dad (Adam Merner).
