Top harness racing pacer The Dorchester has has died after suffering complications related to a recent surgery.
The Dorchester had forged a good record of five wins from seven starts in his limited career and looked like he could be a superstar in the making after he easily smashed the New Zealand mobile 2400m record in October last year.
The speedy Mach Three pacer then backed that up by beating a strong field on New Zealand Cup Day in a 1:54.4 mile rate.
Trainer Mitchell Kerr told Matt Markham from The Informant,
“It’s been tough. Losing any horse is tough,”
“But he was a bit more like a part of the family, you know like a dog that you’ve had for 10 years – he meant a lot to us.”
