Today's eighth leg of the Gr. III National Grand National du Trot Paris-Turf (€90,000 purse, 18 starters) was held at Hippodrome Saint Malo.

The race was the Quinte+ race of the day in France with a jackpot of €2.9 million (jackpot now increases by â‚100,000 each day when not hit by a ticket holder).

The GNT was contested over 2950 meters turning start with three levels of distance. Highest money winners were penalized either 25 or 50 meters at the start.

Tornade du Digeon (7f Jag de Bellouet-Herland du Terme-Kimberland) took an easy win for reinsman J-M Bazire, despite a penalty of 25 meters. The veteran mare was timed in 1.14.5kr and was off at 13.5/1 odds. Urfee Jallerie was second for Damien Bonne and Pierre Levesque teamed Tornado Bello (half-brother to two-time Prix d'Amerique winner Offshore Dream) to a third place finish. Favored Uprince finished ninth and veteran Quoumba de Guez, penalized 50 meters, ended unplaced.

Bazire left the start aggressively with the winner and stated post-race that she is a good mare with potential to compete with the best. This was her first start in the 2014 GNT series. Race summary follows.
