Toulmin takes out Monte Championship

Queen of the Montes, Haley Toulmin, will head to Scandinavia courtesy of Aldebaran Park after taking out the Australian Monte Championship for 2013-14.

Toulmin, 25, accrued 23 points for the series to finish one point clear of championship runner-up Daryl Douglas on 22, with 13 points further back to Nicole Marsing in third.

Toulmin rode five winners in the series, which started at Kilmore last October and wound up at that venue last month.

Toulmin will be presented with her grand prize at Breeders Crown Grand Final Day on Sunday, August 24, at Tabcorp Park Melton.

Chris Lang Jr finished as the leading trainer in the Monte series, accruing 34 points to finish well clear of runner-up Lance Justice on 22 points, with Chris Lang Snr third on 11 points.

In the leading horse category, Motu Young Jacob finished on top with 22 points, over Lysenko with 13 points, while Our Unique Star was third with nine points.
