The race for the $25,000 Trots Country Cups Championship bonus is under way and harness racing star Hectorjayjay has drawn first blood.

The David Aiken-trained gun scored four points for winning Saturday night’s 3SH Swan Hill Pacing Cup, runner-up Guaranteed for trainer Emma Stewart picking up two points and stablemate of the winner Smudge Bromac on the board with one point for third.

The Trots Country Cups Championship turns to Maryborough on Sunday where a quality field will clash, including the expected return of reigning Country Cups king Yankee Rockstar who will be out to defend his crown this summer.

Twenty-five cups make up this season’s Trots Country Cups Championship with Yarra Valley (November 3) and St Arnaud (November 13) in coming weeks.

The $25,000 Country Cup Championship bonus will see $15,000 going to the winning horse’s owners and $10,000 to the trainer.
