CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A place etched forever in the harness racing record books is on the line Saturday afternoon in the Maritime Breeder's finals at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Maritime Breeder's finals for two and three-year-old trotters headlines the 12-dash Saturday afternoon card that gets underway at 12:30 P.M.
Mabou Ridge and Tequila Tuesday will again face off in the race 4 Maritime Breeder's final for two-year-old trotters carrying a $12,100 purse. Mabou Ridge holds the advantage this season as he has bested his rival in six out of nine meetings but Tequila Tuesday has been making them count lately as he had a three-race win streak currently on the line including wins in the Island Breeder's final and Atlantic Breeder's Crown as he looks for the Maritime Triple Crown in his division.
Clare MacDonald will drive Mabou Ridge from post 3 for owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, N.S., while Myles Heffernan Sr., drives Tequila Tuesday from post 5 for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., and owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville. Also in the championship field is Mykindofparty (Driven by Gary Chappell), Westview Star (Corey MacPherson) and Go With Her (Steven Shepherd).
The sophomore trotters go to the gate in the race 6 Maritime Breeder's final with $10,700 at stake and the heavyweight in the division, Gettin Messi, is absent leaving the race wide open.
Thelastonestanding gets the respect of morning line favourite from post 4 with Brian MacPhee at the controls for trainer Ambyr Campbell and owners Donald Beaton of Port Hood and Donald MacEachern of Upper Margaree, N.S. The son of Northern Bailey comes into Saturday's race with three straight second places finishes, including his last two against Gettin Messi.
Dusty Lane Titan (Marc Campbell) has rail control with 11-straight on-the-board finishes while Richsnortherndream (Kenny Arsenault) is installed at 3-1 morning line odds from post 5. Other entries include BJ Santana (Ambyr Campbell), Setting Day (Mike McGuigan), Little Miss Winnie (Clare MacDonald) and Whim Road Gem (Jack Panting).
Screen Test is favoured in the race 11 Preferred pace with Corey MacPherson in the seat in the $2,800 class for trainer Stephen Gass and owners William Andrew of Calgary, Alta., and Kickin Horse Stable of York. Other top entrants are JJ Powerball (Adam Merner) and Burn Out Hanover (Gilles Barrieau).
Nogreatmischief Looks For Redemption
SUMMERSIDE, PE – The final card of the 2019 season at Red Shores Summerside will have Nogreatmischief looking to end his Prince County campaign on a winning note Sunday afternoon.
The western oval will play host to 12 dashes kicking off at 1 P.M. with Nogreatmischief the morning line favourite in race 11 of the day with a $2,600 purse at stake. Walter Cheverie trains, drives and co-owns the 28 time winning son of Bettors Delight with co-owner Brian Thompson of Charlottetown.
After an open length romp on Oct. 14, Nogreatmischief was sent to the lead in his latest and nailed at the finish to settle for second as the race favourite. He will have another tough field of company as Varadero Hanover (Driven by Ken Murphy) leaves from post 5 from the Jeff Wallace stable of Alberton and Mando Fun will look to be forwardly placed from post 2 with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for Paul Biggar of Tyne Valley.
Also in the field is Pictonian Storm (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Twice As Bright (David Dowling), and Best To Hurst (Jason Hughes).
The hottest horse racing at Red Shores Summerside gets top call as the morning line favourite in the race 9 Wendell Wallace Memorial pace for a $2,200 purse. Souverain has won five of his last six starts with his only loss coming when he made a break in stride at the start. Barrieau is back in the driver's seat from post 2 for owner-trainer Phil Sizer of Kensington.
Dusty Lane Cortez was on top of his game is his latest with a 1:57.1 victory by open lengths at Red Shores Charlottetown after the three-year-old son of Westwardho Hanover made a break in the Atlantic Breeder's Crown final.
Brandons Glory ships in from New Brunswick to leave from post 5 with Dale Spence picking up the catch driving assignment for trainer Tommy Gunn as the pacer looks to expand on his $19,486 in seasonal earnings. Completing the field is Painted Desert (Corey MacPherson), Instant Shadow (Kyle Mason), Creepin (Dowling), Coasttocoastshark (Murphy) and Phil Dorleans (Hughes).
