The European trotting stallion Sam Bourbon is off to a good start in the Southern Hemisphere with his talented son Twice As Much making it two wins from two starts when he took out the New South Wales Breeders Challenge Final for two year old harness racing trotters at Menangle on Sunday.
After sitting in the death seat for the entire journey, Twice As Much asserted his superiority in the straight to win comfortably in 2:01.4 for the mile with closing sectionals of 57.4 and 28.4.
Bred in New Zealand by Grant Beckett, Twice As Much is one of six two year olds sired down under by this son of the French sire, Goetmals Wood.
Sam Bourbon won 6 races from 26 starts in Europe, taking a mark of 1:55.1 on his way to earning (E) 373,430 in stakes.
Aside from the six two year olds, he has one yearling and nine weanlings waiting in the wings and covered eleven mares in the last breeding season.
Twice As Much has plenty to recommend him on his maternal side as well being a half brother to the smart trotter KD Commando ($67,832) and KD Muscles ($40,297).
His dam Kazzle Dazzleis by Armbro Invasion and won ($52,611) and was a half sister to the talented trotters What Ever You Like ($138,094) and Avatar ($86,617).
This is the noted “Alabama” trotting family which has had so much success over the years, especially in age group racing.
Going by the way Twice As Much won on Sunday, he would loom as a genuine chance in whatever future races his connections line him up in.
