The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (NZMTC) today - Friday March 18 - announced that only two Pacers Heats will be conducted for eac harness racing Qualifying round of the 2011 Christchurch Casino Inter Dominion Championships. "With only 22 final acceptors for the Pacers Championship, it is logical that these horses be split into two, not three heats," explained NZMTC CEO Shane Gloury.

As a result of the reduction in the number of Pacers Heats, the Pointscore System for the Pacers Championship has also been changed and is now consistent with the

rotters Championship.

"The original Pointscore system for Pacers awarded points down to 6th place in the Heats and was devised on the basis that there would be three Pacers Heats for each

ualifying round" said Gloury.

"If we retained this system, theoretically we could have a situation where we have horses with zero points after all of the Qualifying Heats, fighting it out for the last

emaining spot in the Pacers Grand Final. Accordingly it makes sense to adjust the Pointscore system for Pacers and award points down to 8th place in the Qualifying Heats."

The points that will be awarded in each Inter Dominion Qualifying Heat for Pacers and Trotters will be as follows:

1st = 10 points

nd = 8

rd = 6

th = 5

th = 4

th = 3

th = 2

th = 1

th to 13th = 0

"While the quantity of horses in the Pacers Championship has been affected by the late shift in host venue, the quality of runners in both the Pacers and Trotters Series is outstanding and we are looking forward to a fantastic Inter Dominion Carnival," Gloury concluded.

The 2011 Christchurch Casino Inter Dominion Championships will be conducted at Alexandra Park on Friday Nights 25 March, 1 April and 8 April. For further
