UET (European Trotting Union) last week announced a new set of stakes events, named Breeders Racing, with 125,000 euro finals by year 2015.

There will be five qualifying preps. Breeders and owners will make nominations and related payments by April 22. Eight countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands) are committed to the program albeit there is reportedly nothing to prevent staking of FR registered horses. The new series was reportedly initiated by Lutfi Kolgjini with support of breeders Kronos (Italy), Boko (Netherlands), and Menhammar (Sweden).

It was reported that the program is in response to a large number of European countries, including Scandinavia, where there has been a drop in activity (bookings, registrations and purses), in contrast to the continued strength of FR trotting with its good purses for FR registered "trotteurs", a stud book that is closed to standardbreds and limited racing off the mobile autostart.
