On behalf of the U.S. Harness Racing Alumni Association/Show and Crawford Farms we send our gratitude to the United States Trotting Association's board of directors and members for endorsing the passage of the Safeguard American Foods Export Act (SAFE Act H.R. 961).

The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act, H.R. 961/S. 2006, introduced by U.S. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., and Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., in the U.S. House and U.S. Senators Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., and Bob Menendez, D-N.J., in the U.S. Senate. If passed, the bill would ban the slaughter of horses in America for human consumption and ban their export for slaughter abroad.

The bill was discussed and unanimously approved during the USTA's Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday (April 7) and made official upon the conclusion of the Association's closing general session of its Board of Directors annual meeting on Thursday (April 9). The bill currently has 229 House co-sponsors.

"We are grateful to the USTA for this decision to support the SAFE Act which will end our Standardbred horses from this cruelty." Michelle Crawford & Freddie Hudson
