Leading Tasmanian harness racing trainer Grant Hodges wishes Falcon Shaw had arrived in his table as a three or four-year-old instead of a gelding rising seven.

And after watching the son of Ultimate Falcon score his second win from only five lifetime starts it is easy to understand the trainer's thoughts.

Falcon Shaw looks set to make his way through the grades following his narrow but impressive win over Luke Thomas in a C1 over 2090 metres at Tattersall's Park in Hobart on Sunday night.

With Hodges in the sulky, Falcon Shaw settled just beyond midfield in the one-out line and for much of the last lap he travelled three-wide with cover to the home turn.

When Hodges called on Falcon Shaw ($7) for the supreme effort in the home straight he dug deep and grabbed victory in the shadows of the post in a blanket finish involving five horses.

He hit the line with a half-neck to spare over Luke Thomas ($7) with the luckless Budding Artist ($44) a head away third and just ahead of Scruffy Jake ($3.30 fav).

Falcon Shaw was bred by Gordon Shaw and is owned and raced by his daughter Sally and her partner Nathan Oliver.

Hodges is confident Falcon Shaw can win more races with his next assignment expected to be at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston.
