CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Southfield Skye has yet to taste defeat in her young career and Thursday evening will see if that two-win streak can last through Atlantic Sires Stakes competition at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer week racing.
The 12-dash Thursday card has a 7 P.M. opening post time featuring a trio of $9,540 Atlantic Sires Stakes A-divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies. Southfield Skye is the favourite in the last division in race 10 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Glen MacKay Sr., and owner Southfield Farms Inc., of Summerside. She will face off with post 7 starter Vicky Everyday (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) and Woodmere Leah (Darren Crowe) from post 2.
The Real McCoy is the favourite in race 6 in A-division action. Marc Campbell will be the driver's seat of his trainee for owners Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore and Robert Sumarah of Halifax, N.S. Her main two rivals were both victorious their last starts in Sires Stakes racing with Woodmere Stella (Gilles Barrieau) from post 3 and Aspoonfulofsugar (Dale Spence) with post 6.
Little Miss Ava is pegged as the one to beat in the other $9,540 rookie filly split in race 8. Barrieau will again sit in the driver's seat in the absence of regular pilot Myles Heffernan Sr., for owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville and trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. The Hilarious Halo lass scored a two-length victory in the Callbeck stake last week off a two-hole ride with Barrieau in the bike. Her chief rivals on Thursday are JJ Talisa (Redmond Doucet) off the rail and Maggiesdelight (MacPherson) from the outside post 7.
Race 5 is the Joey & Dee Arsenault Memorial with Souverain the favourite with Brodie MacPhee in the bike for Phil Sizer of Kensington.
Cougar Gal is the morning line pick in the race 3 Ramblinglily Memorial pace for the late great pacing mares. Marc Campbell drives Cougar Gal for trainer Neil Bambrick of Charlottetown.
The Apps and Etta Arsenault Memorial is in race 7 and Lean On Who (Barrieau) is the top choice in her second P.E.I. start for trainer Ron Matheson.
The Monctonian Pace lines up in race 9 for a $3,000 purse. Union Man Hanover gets the respect of the classifier as the 5-2 choice with Barrieau driving for Bob MacNeil of Saint John, N.B.
JK Express will look for another victory off the rail in the race 11 Joe & Wal Hennessey Memorial pace. Jason Hughes trains and drives the Western Paradise pacer.
