July 1, 2017 – Today’s harness racing classic the Hungarian Trotting Derby (purse 10Huf million, 2500 meters autostart, 13 starters), the 103rd edition, went to Urilany R (4f Maximus Lindy-Elegant Lady-Mill H) timed in 1.17.4kr and driven by Veljko Mazsity, also trainer, and owned by Hico i. The winner has a fine 4-2 slate in six 2017 starts after going two for two last year. Uptown Boy M (4f Cigar Dan-Malhana Serey-Malhana Sascha) was second for Csaba Lakatos driving for trainer Laszlo Toth. Third went to the Lajos Marton teamed and trained Ubu Kiraly (4m Vioxx SR-Helikon-Awesome Goal). The fans turned out in large numbers for the special Derby weekend.
The undercard was a special one too. The Pannonia DIJ (purse 1.8Huf million, 1800 meters) was won by 1.16.4kr timed Speedy Boy (6g Wall Street Banker-Vas Lady-Endless Sands). Veljko Mazsity reined and trains this one for Hico i. Mazsity enjoyed quite a successful day at the races. Time To Say Goodbye (5m Maximus Lindy-Jungfrau-Valley Guardian) was second for Lajos Marton, also trainer, and third went to Szacharin.
The Jozsef Sinka Memorial (purse 1.2Huf million, 1800 meters autostart) was won by the 1.15.2 kr timed veteran Milliondollar Lux (11m Ganymede-Dadaumpa Jet-Supergill) expertly handled by trainer Emil Csordas. Bronsvlinda and Orderly were the next paid behind the winner.
Also of great interest on the Derby program was the Prof Eaterhazy Miklos Morse Memorial (purse 1.8Huf million, 1800 meters autostart), for fillies, and the 1.17.4kr timed winner was Veronica Fling (3f Racino-Cicciolina Fling-Supergill) teamed with trainer Veljko Mazsity. This filly defeated Villam Ville and Vital RG.
The regular open class trotters later competed in the Daniel Bisbac Memorial (purse 600,000Huf, 1900 meters autostart). The 1.15.1kr clocked winner was the consistent Spartakus Ans (6g Cantab Hall-Valganna OK-Lemon Dra) reined by Csaba Lakatos and trainer by Laszlo Toth. Conway Boko and Vamos Kemp were the next two on the line. The winning son of Cantab Hall was bred in Italy.
