Victory Tilly, with the retirement to stud of Varenne, confirmed his ranking as the top free-for-all trotter in the world with an effortless victory at San Siro Raceway, Milan, Italy last Friday.

Victory Tilly made it back-to-back wins in the Gran Premio delle Nazioni powering straight to the front from the start and coasting clear of the opposition to win by two lengths over Fan Idole and Legendary Lover (third).

There was however further drama during and after the event involving the performance of Abano As.

The driver of Abano As, Pietro Gubellini, was thrown out of the sulky around the last bend and the racehorse contined in a wild gallop before falling just past the finishing line.

Victory Tilly has become the first Swedish-trained trotter to have won over $3 million in stake earnings.
