When VIP Stable managing partner Ed O'Connor was teeing off in Scotland last fall, he never imagined this 'bucket List' trip would yield two stakes winning names for his pacing colts! Tonight at The Meadowlands, VIP Stable's TROON and DUEL IN THE SUN swept the 2 year old colt divisions of the Simpson Stakes, the very first open company harness racing events for 2 year olds.

Troon got the night started off as the 6/5 favorite in the first Simpson division. After tucking in the 3 hole for the initial half mile, Driver Tim Tetrick pulled the NJ bred TROON first over on the turn and cleared to the front before the ¾ pole and led the field to the wire with a strong 27.4 final quarter. Don't You Know and Someplace Special were 2nd and 3rd respectively, right in front of highly touted cold Bigrisk, a 2 year old Somebeachsomwhere brother to Rock N Roll Heaven.

In the second Simpson division, VIP's DUEL IN THE SUN got loose late to win going away at the wire in 1:55.2. Leaving from the rail, DUEL IN THE SUN tucked in the pocket behind eventual place finisher BEACFRONT, with those two traded the lead a few times before mid stretch. Inside the last eight, the freshman CAMBEST gelding popped the pocket to get up for his first career victory with Jude Hall third and the favored Source Of Pride, a full brother to World Champion American Jewel making a break and finishing last.

VIP's Tom Janes was in the winner's circle for both victories, and gave all the credit the trainer John Butenschoen. "John helped me pick out both of 2 year olds last fall, and did a great job with them all winter in Florida. I told Meadowlands track announcer Sam McKee that TROON would be a good one when we were running the around The Meadowlands last weekend for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, but I wasn't sure DUEL IN THE SUN would be a winner as well".
