Preferred Equine Marketing, in conjunction with Southwind Farms of Pennington, New Jersey, has announced it will be the exclusive agent for the frozen semen of World Champion Varenne in 2008.

Varenne (1:51.1 - 1:51.3f), who turned in one of the most memorable Breeders Crown victories in recent memory, retired as the richest standardbred of all time, with over $6.2 million in earnings internationally, surpassing the great Moni Maker.

As a sire, he is off to a great start, having sired multiple Group I winners in Europe and recent Breeders Crown Champion Southwind Serena.

He stood his first five seasons at Allevamento Il Grifone, Italy and this year will stand at the renowned Menhammar Stuteri in Sweden.

A great outcross, Varenne (Waikiki Beach-Ialmaz) will stand for $15,000 (U.S.) live foal and his offspring will be eligible to the Breeders Crown. His book in Italy and Sweden is already full and closed for €15,000 ($22,000 U.S.).
