Poisonous (Jimmy Whittemore) captures the Vernon Downs harness racing featured pace ($6,500) on Saturday (September 29).
Golden Gun (Josh Kinney) charged out to the front and controlled all the early fractions (:27.1, :56.0, 1;23.4).
Poisonous ($4.30) found himself sixth after three-quarters. Owned and trained by Whittemore, he would find an opening on the inside and sneak by them all in the stretch
to win in 1:51.4. Card Knock Life (Truman Gale) finished second with Golden Gun settling for third money.
Poisonous is a 6-year-old horse by Art Major. It was his fifth win in 2018. He would secure career victory number 16.
John MacDonald drove four winners on the night. He got his wins with Electraluck ($7.30), Pink Gardenias ($11.40), Western Toro ($6.00), and Brookdale Bruiser ($2.30). He is second in wins with 92 on the season.
Leading driver Jimmy Whittemore and Truman Gale both drove three winners on the night. Whittemore got his other two wins with Frappe' ($3.80) and Gracie G ($3.70). He now has 98 wins at Vernon Downs this season. Gale won with Vegas Again ($5.40), Painite ($5.80), and Roaddog Jess James ($3.40). He is third in wins with 49.
