The veteran pacer Mizuno made his Saratoga Gaming and Raceway debut a winning one on Saturday when getting up in the final yards to take the featured $15,000 Open Pace, covering the mile in 1:53.3.
Starting from post two with Jim Devaux at the lines, Mizuno was content to track the leader from the pocket as Ideal Conditions (Chris Long) showed the way through uncontested splits of :27.2, :56.3, and 1:25.
Ideal Conditions entered the lane with 1 ¼-length lead, but was quickly engaged by Mizuno, who was angled off the pylons in mid-stretch and responded to persistent left-handed urging, thrusting his nose in front in the shadow of the wire to prevail by a nose.
Mizuno paid $12.80, $6.90, and $3.30 for the victory. Ideal Conditions brought in $3.80 and $3.10 for second, while Dream Package (Brian Cross) returned $5.30 when finishing third.
Owned by Robert Salemo, Lawrence Albohn, and trainer Tina Adamczyk, the son ofis a six-time winner from 25 seasonal starts, and has gotten his picture taken in 26 of 104 lifetime outings, while amassing over $299,000 in career earnings.
