Exceptionally competitive trotting highlighted today's Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes harness racing card, readying race-goers for tomorrows Grand Prix de France. Today's featured Prix Ephram Houel (Grade II, 120,000 euro, 2,175 meters) was taken by the 4 year-old mare Victoire (by Kitko), driven by Mathieu Mottier for owner/trainer Danielle Mottier.

She covered the 1-3/8 mile course in a mile rate of 1:55.36, defeating two Love You sired mares, Visite Royale (Julien Dubois) and Village Mystic (Louis Baudron). Interestingly, Kitko is by Quito de Talonay, a son of Florestan, while the dam Broutille is by Royal Prestige.

The co-featured attele (sulky) event, Prix de Munich (90,000 euro, 2,100 meters, European) was won the hot-trotting 8 year-old mare Reedite Gede and trainer/driver Thierry Duvaldestin, also trainer of Ready Cash). Reedite Gede led almost start to finish, battling a host of adversaries throughout, to score in a mile rate time of 1:54.88 for owner Ms. Isabelle Pillon. Reedite Gede is by Buvetier d'Aunou (Royal Prestige-Nesmile) from the Passionnant mare Inedite Gede. Second in this European event was Partout Simoni (6 year-Denmark registered old son of Jag de Bellout from Axie Fair, by Linus T) for Dominik Locqueneux and trainer Sebastien Guarato. Third was the good Italian campaigner Irving Rivarco (Ganymede-Biscuit Rivarco-Arndon) for driver/trainer Pietro Gubellini.

Those interested in pedigree will focus on the dam of Partout Simoni, named Axie Fair. The 1993 foal is by Linus T (Speedy Crown-Gretchen Ann-Ayres-Flicka Frost-Victory Song-Flicka Hanover) and the dam Gaxi Nyhave is by Lord Valentine (Florican-Dinner Music) from Prinsesse Koldby (by Frosty Hanover, he by Star's Pride from Flicka Hanover). 100% standardbred Axie Fair is! The family of Timothy T, Christopher T, Cora T, Betsy Sue - dam of Why Not and Monarch T, and others can still be found.

Today's Quinte+ (the pick-5 plus jackpot that reached 4.9 million euro) also displayed intense competition. The Prix de Verneuil (European, 72,000 euro, 2,700 meters) was taken by 105/1 shot Oudry Dei Veltri, a 5 year-old Italian mare (by Varenne)trained by Holger Ehlert and driven by Roberto Vecchione. She just got by the Broadway Hall mare Broadwaytranss from Holland, driven by Franck Ouvrie, with another Italian mare Ohle Ur (Varenne) finishing third. Odds of the top five finishers were 105, 29, 6, 18 and 125/1. There were no ticketholders of the top five in exact order, but the "disorder" was played and paid over 36,800 euro. Tomorrow's Quinte+ jackpot moves up to 4.95 million euro with that race being the Grand Prix de France.
