Another contest day and another victory for Pen Handicapper Mark McKelvie in HANA Harness' The Pen vs. The Chip Handicapping Challenge sponsored by The Hambletonian Society, Meadowlands, Tioga Downs, and Vernon Downs at The Meadows for the harness racing eighteen-race Adios card.
McKelvie’s wagers grossed $64.20 for a Win ROI of 1.783, followed by Chip Handicapper Pandy ($53.20, 1.478) grabbing the place position with Scott Alberg ($44.80, 1.244) clinching the show spot.
With exacta keys, an unofficial side competition, the handicappers were on fire as six of the eight handicappers had positive results with five of the handicappers having gross earnings in triple-digits. McKelvie led the handicappers in exacta wagers as well, grossing $144.60 for an Exacta ROI of 2.008.
Mr. Trifecta landed in the place position with a gross of $136.80 (1.900) while Bobby Z. ($126.80, 1.761) finished third.
In the overall standings, which look solely at Win wagers, Mark McKelvie opens up a little more daylight to have a 0.100 lead over Trackmaster’s Chatsworth Consortium (1.050 vs. 0.950) with Pandy improving his position to be within 0.039 of second place.
With thirty-six legs remaining to be contested, it is too early to count anyone out of the Handicapping Challenge as all it takes is a couple of long shots to be right back in the thick of things.

he Pen vs. The Chip competition resumes on Saturday, August 4 with the Hambletonian Day card at the Meadowlands which features numerous stakes races. There is a special post time on Hambletonian Day of 12:00pm.
The competition continues on Monday, August 6 as the competition returns to Canada for the Battle of Waterloo at Grand River Raceway. As always, contest dates, handicapper selections, and additional statistical information are available at the contest website (http://hanaharnesscontest.blogspot.com).
