Harness Racing returned to the Swan Hill Racing Centre on Tuesday April 2 when the Nyah HRC staged a neat eight event card dominated by visitors.

The Long Forest (Bacchus Marsh) training combination of Andy and Kate Gath took the honours for the night with a stable double - quality Real Desire/Robelle 4-Y-0 gelding Regal Knight taking the feature event on the program the Mixx FM Pace for C4 & C5 class over 2240 metres and promising 3-Y-0 It Is I/Shot Of Sugar colt Quadentate the Laser Electrical Pace for C2 & C3 class over 1609 metres, both driven by Kate.

Regal Knight coming off an eye catching narrow defeat at Yarra Valley on March 25, possied one/one from gate five trailing Well Oiled Lombo, before being sent forward to park outside the poleline leader Itsnewstome.

Despite over racing at times, Regal Knight proved too strong at the finish for Itsnewstome (2.4 metres) in a sensational last half mile of 55.5, with Torque Artraction (three back the markers) third. The mile rate 1-59.5.

Quadentate led throughout from the pole to easily account for Village Spirit (one/two) and Caulonia Babe (one/one - three wide home turn) in a brilliant track record rate of 1-54.8 (last half 56.4).

Glenn and Daryl Douglas were victors in the opening race of the evening - the Swan Hill Holden Pace (1st Heat) for C0 class over 2240 metres with 4-Y-0 Aces N Sevens/Smooth Laura mare Acesneights which broke her maiden status at start number 22.

Restrained from outside the front line to settle at the tail of the field with One Wise Man leading from gate five for Michael Bellman, "Dasher" Douglas weaved inside runners in the last lap to be three back in the running line for the last lap before easing three wide approaching the home turn.

In a punishing finish, Acesneights did best to blouse the leader by a head in 1-59.5, with Fictional Hero off a three wide trail from four back in the moving line at the bell third.

Astute Rochester trainer Mark Thompson is no stranger to Nyah meetings and snared the Lindsay Stewart 2-Y-0 Pace over 1609 metres with Presidential Ball/Secret Bonus gelding Presidentialsecret.

Placed in all three runs prior, Presidentialsecret driven by Ellen Tormey led throughout from gate three to score easily in advance of Znana which raced in the open and Billy Mack which trailed the winner. The mile rate 1-58.

Sometimes unruly Northern Luck/Soap Box filly Mary Mon was on her best behaviour to land the Hayward Memorial Pace for C1 & C2 class (mares) over 2240 metres in a rate of 2-01.3.

Trained at Moama by Shane Gilligan and driven by son Thomas, Mary Mon was taken back off the gate from outside the front row to settle at the rear, with Malcolm O'Bree's Cinder Path leading from gate four.

When Miss Ruthless got the better of the pacemaker on straightening and raced clear, Mary Mon produced a barnstorming finish out wide to register a 4 metre runaway victory over her, with Safely Loaded third after trailing the leader from the pole.

Bunbartha (Shepparton) trainer/driver John Newberry's Kiwi bred 4-Y-0 Courage Under Fire/Shez Madam Jasper gelding On Fire Within was a huge winner of the Ash Roberts Homes Pace for C1 class over 1609 metres.

Sitting outside the local hope and polemarker Lifeshortgohard from gate three, Newberry put the foot to the floor in the last lap and On Fire Within exploded away to open up a commanding lead on his rivals.

Joined by Ok To Fly from five back in the running line on the final bend, On Fire Within defied the challenge to score by an impressive 5.5 metres in a rate of 1-57.4 over Ok The Fly, with Purple Village running home late from the back of the weakening leader to finish third after being badly held up.

Junortoun trainer Chris Svanosio combined with owner Danny O'Bree to capture the Swan Hill Buslines 3-Y-0 Pace over 2240 metres with Modern Art/Wellinformed gelding Rocky Carrington.

Sent forward from gate five three wide to sit outside Chain Of Gold which led from the pole, Rocky Carrington gained cover when another of the Andy Gath team Major Landscape moved forward after being trapped three wide to park in the open.

Easing three wide on the home turn, Rocky Carrington finished best to gain the day in advance of Vince Costa's Beachstar along the sprint lane after trailing the leader, with Chain Of Gold holding down third.

Manangatang duo Bill Carroll (trainer) and Noel Templeton (owner/breeder/driver) combined to land the Alabar Bloodstock Pace for C0 class over 2240 metres with consistent 6-Y-0 Life Sign/Lynbar Lass gelding Lifebeginsatfifty.

Given the run of the race from the pole trailing Shayne Cramp's Nikkis Delight (gate three), Lifebeginsatfifty used the sprint lane to perfection, drawing away over the concluding stages to defeat a death-seating Shegoeswhooshka in a rate of 1-59.9, with Sweet Champagne running on late from last to finish third.

Both winners of the C0 class race will clash in the Final being held on Mildura Pacing Cup Night Saturday April 13.

*** Nyah race again on Wednesday May 1.
