Great Southern Star champion Vulcan brought up a 'Sonny Bill dozen (10) of Group One wins when taking out tonight's (Saturday March 30) harness racing feature for the trotters- the New Zealand Trotting Championship (Gr1).

Just seven days after becoming the first horse in the Southern Hemisphere to win two Group One races in a day, it is highly likely that Vulcan set another record tonight, in becoming the first horse to win three Group One races in the space of a week.

Remarkably it was also Vulcan's fifth straight Group One win, and fourth in the last fortnight.

Vulcan was forced to race in the open for the last lap, but proved far too strong in the home stretch holding off Stent and Samantha Ottley by ¾ of a length. A good result in what was Samantha Ottley's first Group One drive.

"He's just a super horse and a true professional said driver Anthony Butt. "I know I've said that before, but it's the best way to describe him.

"Five Group Ones in a row is just a remarkable feat."

Vulcan's Group One tally is quickly closing in on those of his illustrious former stable mates. Two more would see him equal Take A Moment, while six more would see him join the legendary Lyell Creek on 16 Group One successes.

In his current form, anything is possible.

The camp also confirmed that they are still very keen on a trip to Sweden, but details are yet to be finalised.
