Warragul trotter Miss Intense is chasing a feature race win this Saturday night.
The seven-year-old mare, having just her tenth race start, will compete in the $20,000 Breed For Speed Silver Series Final at Melton for trainer Jenni Lewis and driver Greg Sugars.
Miss Intense has stuck a rich vein of form since returning to racing in November.
After successive wins at Geelong and Melton, Miss Intense produced an eye catching second in a heat of the Silver Series at Bendigo recently, and is sure to give her supporters a sight in Saturday night's race.
In many ways the story of Miss Intense is similar to that of Lewis' former top trotter of a decade ago, Billy Royle.
Both horses are out of the mare Ivy Jean, and both suddenly found considerable racetrack success as older horses – Billy Royle won one race from his first 26 starts but ended up going on to win several feature races, and compete in an InterDominion series, as an older horse.
While this weekend's race is the biggest test to date for Miss Intense, she is in the best form of her career at the right time, and has earned an opportunity in the feature event.
Saturday's meeting is a major fundraiser for the Women's Cancer foundation.
