The outstanding pacer Gold Ace is due to have his second run back from a spell when he competes in the $30,000 Group 3 Priority Pass Pace at the harness racing meeting at Menangle on Saturday night. (August 16th)
It has been nearly five weeks since his first up run at the same track and Gold Ace should be a much fitter horse for the hitout.
Trainer Belinda McCarthy has been patient with the Bettors Delight entire and she should be rewarded with a much improved effort on his first up run.
Mat Rue,back from North America takes the drive as Luke McCarthy is at Ballarat with a big team for the Breeders Crown semi finals.
This season has been one of those that promised so much for Gold Ace and yet never quite reached the heights that many pundits thought it would.
Wins in the $100,000 Cranbourne Cup, $50,000 Shepparton Cup and the $50,000 Kevin Newman Cup as well as a great third in the Hunter Cup and $195,013 in the bank would all suggest a great season.
However at different times in the last twelve months Gold Ace has looked like a horse that was capable of dominating on the Grand Circuit but has always just fallen short on the big stage.
Racing at the Grand Circuit level can take time for horses to adjust to.
As this season has been the first where Gold Ace has consistently raced on the Grand Circuit, then maybe in the new season with that experience behind him, Gold Ace might finally live up to the potential he has always shown.
