Handicapping wise we had a great two weeks, mainly at the Red Mile…Arch Madness helped me out with a monster effort last week and paid $15.00 to win. Now we are totally into the Breeders Crown at Pocono Downs. Right now I stand at picking horses in 152 races with 62 winners. I went five for ten last week and won $4.40 (based on $2 win bet each race). We are still in the minus earning column at -$22.40 going into this weekend and we will bring that number down some more.
Tons of action and great racing with 18 Breeders Crown elimination races between Friday and Saturday and it’s all at Pocono Downs. Let’s hope the weather holds up. Some of the fields are not full but the competition is very tough and no one wants to miss out of being in the final and whoever wins gets to draw for inside posts so you know everyone will be all out.
$25,000 2YO Filly Trot Elimination
4th race FRIDAY – The Breeders Crown slogan, “It all comes down to the Breeders Crown” lives up to that reputation in the every first division. Designed To Be, Shake It Cherry, Lifetime Pursuit, Struck By Lindy and Market Rally can all be a winner in here. You can almost just throw a dart at the race program and be correct. I’m going with Lifetime Pursuit as she returned to her winning ways again at the Red Mile with her 1:52.3 clocking and unlike the others she cut her own mile.
$25,000 2YO Filly Trot Elimination
6th race FRIDAY – The last time Cooler Schooner raced on this oval she set the world record as the fastest two-year-old trotter of all time in 1:51.3. Despite coming up short in her last two starts she should be able to cut the mile and hold on the entire way.
$25,000 2YO Colt Trot Elimination
12th race FRIDAY – There are some that may question Father Patrick being able to win from the far outside in post 9. But he is the class of the field, going for his seventh straight win and won from post ten last month at Mohawk Raceway. He is just an awesome colt who will find a way to win.
$25,000 Open Mares Pace Elimination
7th race SATURDAY – Despite being winless in her last six starts on paper, Anndrovette is still the class of the field with over $500,000 in earnings this year. Rocklamation is good, so is Economy Terror but my money is on Anndrovette returning to her winning ways.
$25,000 3YO Colt Trot Elimination
9th race SATURDAY – Royalty For Life seems to throw in a clicker every four or five starts and it looks like that happened in the second heat of the Kentucky Futurity last week. But no two heats today and with inside post he should be able to dictate all the fractions to win in here. Creatine is razor sharp but I think his outside will hinder him.
$25,000 3YO Colt Pace Elimination
10th race SATURDAY – The “Captain” has been awesome and beat everyone in this field last week except for Sunfire Blue Chip. Will be exciting to see him tangle with Vegas Vacation once again but I think Captaintreacherous will win the battle again.
$25,000 3YO Filly Trot Elimination
11th race SATURDAY – With the exception of having never raced against Southwind Cocoa, Bee A Magician has beaten everyone else in this field. Undefeated in 13 starts she is the top rated harness horse in North America. It’s never an easy task when she races and this event is no exception but she has always come out on top.
$25,000 Open Horse Pace Elimination
12th race Saturday – Here is what can be and should be the best of all 18 elimination divisions. Warrawee Needy returns, A Rocknroll Dance hopes to rebound, Sweet Lou, Foiled Again, Golden Receiver back to winning form, Michael’s Power and Bolt The Duer, all classy competition vying for seven spots in the final. I think that Warrawee Needy is primed and ready for action and may just go right to the front and never looked back.
