Royalty For Life is late scratch!
With the late scratch of Royalty For Life, who was my selection in the 13th race $500,000 Breeders Crown Final tonight, I need to make a new choice for the race.
This is a tough call as Spider Blue Chip has been right in the hunt every week and Deadliest Catch was super game last week and now looks even better with Corey Callahan getting the catch-drive. But I am going with Creatine. He now gets to start from post five and has the gate speed to go to the
front and either stay there or get some great live cover to score from.
Here are the rest of my selections for tonight! GOOD LUCK!
$500,000 2YO Colt Trot Final
3rd race – Will he cut the mile or get a two-hole trip. That is the Father Patrick question. Either way this superb son of Cantab Hall has shown the ability to win from just about any situation. He will be chalk but the key for me is picking the winner of the race. Should be start of a great night of racing for the Jimmy Takter Stable.
$500,000 2YO Filly Pace Final
4th race – Last week Allstar Rating was given a perfect drive by Yannick and they defeated Precocious Beauty in a photo. Can they repeat that effort? I don’t think so. Even from the outside in post eight, I can see Doug McNair sending Precocious Beauty to the front and not have to look back. She is the class of the field and should rebound off last week’s loss.
$500,000 2YO Filly Trot Final
5th race – It is just about a given fact that Cooler Schooner will cut the mile in here. If the track is sloppy she will tire and fade late. But if the track is fast she should be able to wire the field again. This is her favorite track and even if she gives live cover she can still hold on at the finish.
$600,000 Open Trot Final
6th race – Toughest race for me to pick in out of the 12 finals. Intimidate is on his mark and puts his six race win streak on the line in here. Ron Pierce was overheard saying he can’t wait to drive him in the BC final. But the ‘iron horse’ Arch Madness has come alive as of late and has beaten most of these his last two starts impressively. I think Arch Madness, despite his post will be flying on the outside late to win again at a price.
$500,000 3YO Filly Pace Final
7th race – Here is a race I don’t want to miss. Shebestingin is razor sharp last two starts and if she minds her manners she is a force to be reckoned with. But I Luv The Nitelife has had the force with her nearly all season long and has beaten Shebestingin a few times already. Even if Shebestingin is at her best I don’t think she can beat I Luv the Nitelife.
$500,000 2YO Colt Pace Final
8th race – Time to go with a long shot. While Somestarsomewhere and Luck Be Withyou will be the bet favorites I think the action up front early on with be too intense and that someone will come on late to steal the Championship. That someone is Melmerby Beach. Early on this colt showed great speed, is lightly raced, closed well in his elimination race and could be primed for a big upset in here. The long shot exacta would be to use him with Some Major Beach.
$250,000 Mares Open Trot Final
9th race – All season long Maven has battled with the best mares in the country and has beaten them almost every start. Last week it was a world record 1:51.4 by open lengths. Provided she does not get into any road trouble she is primed to wear a Breeders Crown (tiara) after this race.
$300,000 Mares Open Pace Final
10th race – Five of the nine horses in this race are million dollar plus winners but only one has $2.5 million in earnings. Anndrovette is the class of the field, Horse of the Year, Breeders Crown prior winner and has had more good races than bad ones this season. Feeling You may have beaten her at Pocono Downs two starts back but after last week’s 1:49.1 triumph in her elimination division, Anndrovette is in the perfect spot to wear the Crown again.
$500,000 3YO Filly Trot Final
11th race – You cannot go against perfection and undefeated Bee A Magician is as close to equine perfection as you can get this year in harness racing. She is 14 for 14 and still going strong having raced most of the season. Bee A Magician is actually facing a few fillies she has not raced against this year but that should not matter. Once she gets clearance and makes her move to the lead no one should be able to catch her.
$500,000 3YO Colt Pace Final
12th race – He may not win by the length of the track and has had too many close calls this year but Captaintreacherous has been remarkable. Vegas Vacation has looked him in the eye the last two starts but could not get by. Others have tried to no avail and thus “the Captain” should be able to avenge his loss last year in the Breeders Crown with a major triumph. Time is irrelevant as this horse has but one desire, winning.
$500,000 Open Pace Final
14th race – Saving what should be the best of the Crown races for last. All season long these great older horses have been going head and head and no one horse has yet to win three straight major stakes. After last week’s monster effort by the “old man” Foiled Again, I have to go with him to repeat in the final. Ron Burke has raced him all season long with great success and last week he showed us all that even at age 9 he can still tough it out against the best.
