Last week we hit four of our seven picks and barely broke even plus a couple minor exotic plays. This week we have some major action taking place mainly at Yonkers with the Matchmaker Series Friday and the Levy Series Saturday and they are featuring many of the top older mares and horses in racing plus Pocono Downs opens on Saturday with a top trotting feature.

$40,000 Pace Matchmaker Series F&M Yonkers

6th race FRIDAY – The current three-time Pacing Mare of the Year, Anndrovette, kicks off her 2014 season in tough competition once again. But this mare has not won $2.5 million by resting on her laurels. She should be ready for a big effort despite first time back on a half mile in some time. Use entry of Summertime Lea/Swinging Beauty and Cocoa Beach in exotic plays.

$33,000 Trot Open Handicap Yonkers

8th race Friday – One of my winners last week was Super Manning and he has been razor sharp as of late. Can’t see to leave a lick but once he begins to grind it out he has been tough to beat. Look for him to take another in here. Use Calchips Brute and Backstreet Hanover in exotic plays.

$40,000 Pace Matchmaker Series F&M Yonkers

9th race FRIDAY - Some great mares in this division too. It was almost a coin toss but I am going with Somwheroverarainbow over Charisma Hanover. In her Meadowlands debut she was ultra impressive with 1:49.1 lifetime mark and looks ready to wreck havoc in the older mare pacing ranks this year. Use Charisma Hanover and Royal Cee Cee N in exotic plays.

$50,000 Pace Levy Series Yonkers Raceway

2nd race SATURDAY – Unraced at age 2, Word Power made up for lost time last year with seven wins and looks fit and ready for action after two decent qualifying races, the later a neck loss to Foiled Again. May have drawn into the softer of the five Levy Divisions. Use entry of Clear Vision/Aracache Hanover and Dancin Yankee in exotic plays.

$20,000 Pace Clyde Hirt Series Meadowlands

7th race SATURDAY – This should be a decent test for Wake Up Peter as he is currently unbeaten in four starts this year. Has the rail but to no avail as he is not a good leaver but most certainly should be able to get some live cover to grind out another win in first round of the series. Use Ontario Success and See And Ski in exotic plays.

$47,650 Pace Winter Survivor Final Meadowlands

10th race SATURDAY – Competitive series final will see plenty of action tonight. I am going with Matador D as he is the only one in the series to have won two legs. Will need some cover but if not I think he is ready to rough it out first-over and has great closing speed. Use the entry of Cane Ridge/Hacienda and Tamayo in exotic plays.

$25,000 Trot Preferred Handicap Pocono Downs

10th race SATURDAY – What a great way to open the meet with a field of top trotters. Six of nine are return winners in the field. I am going with Modern Family has he has been razor sharp for Daryl Bier at both Meadowlands and Dover Downs and despite outside post should be able to leave well, find position and maybe even pop right to the lead for good. Use Daylon Magician and Turtle Express in exotic plays.

$50,000 Pace Levy Series Yonkers Raceway

11th race SATURDAY – When you are the richest harness horse of all time and Older Horse of the Year, there is easy starts to the season. That’s the case for Foiled Again as he makes his 2014 debut. But I fear he may not be ready despite two sharp qualifying wins to take on Apprentice Hanover. Going for his tenth straight win, Apprentice Hanover ships in from Woodbine in superb shape and looks to be the top pacer currently in racing. It will be a great contest. Use the entry of Hillbilly Hanover/Foiled Again and Texican N in exotic plays.
