I am well aware that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and with no offence to Paramount Queen, the person who voted for her over Habibti in the 3YO Trotting Filly category should be culled from ever voting again, as should the person who voted for Schleck over Daenery’s Targaryen. If it was the same person both times, well, ask yourself...
The vote for Dieu De L’Amour over One Over Da Moon is also very questionable.
I know these votes were only one against 32, but as we saw with Ohoka Punter and Border Control, that is enough to change the result. And if we have people making votes like that, you have to ask yourself are the right horses winning?
Personally, I hope that we stay with the current voting system next year, rather than change to a public vote, as I believe a public vote will be too biased, with those with popular owners or trainers coming out on top of those who are actually the best. But, perhaps those who get to vote should be chosen with more care
I also think firmer grounds need to be established on how we vote on Australian wins, as this year there was a lot of confusion about Vulcan and Mah Sish from both media and their connections.
The fact that Fly Like An Eagle, who won three races for the season, was listed for 4YO & Older Pacing Entire or Gelding of the Year and dual Group One winner Mah Sish was not, is an absolute disgrace.
