Mount Helena harness racing trainer Ray Williams can create a unique piece of Pinjarra Cup history should his runner Pacific Warrior win this Monday's $40,000 Group Three Parker Family Pinjarra Cup.
Pacific Warrior has drawn the prized pole position in Monday’s race and the five year old son of Pacific Rocket is yet to be beaten in eight starts at Pinjarra.
His regular reinsman Nathan Turvey will again be at the reins as Ray seeks to join his son Grant as a three-time Pinjarra Cup trainer.
Ray Williams has already trained two Pinjarra Cup winners in Collector (1999) and Franco Eagle (2000) which were both driven by Ray’s son Grant who is now a thoroughbred trainer.
Grant Williams is presently one of four trainers who share the Pinjarra Cup training honours with three winners having trained Shardons Aflyin (2006), Precious Dylan (2010) and Ohoka du Nord (2011).
The other trainers of three Pinjarra Cup winners are Bernie Cushing (1955, 1972 and 1973), Lyle Lindau (1967, 1974 and 1981) and Trevor Warwick (1986, 1987 and 1997).
Grant Williams is the undisputed king of the drivers in the Pinjarra Cup with his five successes while Ray and Grant Williams share with Trevor and Aiden Warwick and Ray and Andrew De Campo the record of father/son trainers of Pinjarra Cup winners.
