Any punters with a sketchy knowledge of the handicapping system would have been on to With Intent in the loose class Brosnan Transport Trot (2600 metres) at the Timaru meeting today Sunday 11 May.

Dennis Nyhan’s rapidly growing daughter of Sundon went into the maiden race for trotters as three times a winner, capitalizing fully on juvenile and second season concessions.

With Intent, runner up to Real Deal Yankee in the Hambletonian at Ashburton in February was twice successful as a two year old and once this season.

On paper, it did not seem she could lose except for accidents and so it proved.

Co owner and trainer Nyhan let her roll to the front early and the race was as good as over.

With Intent was untroubled to score by half a length in a 2:07.6 mile rate, even though Idle Earl closed rapidly with a powerful late claim that suggested she was on the brink of winning form,

With Intent did not have to be pushed to come home from the 800 in 61.2, the last 400 in 29.4.

Nyhan has declared he will not pursue a Jewels mission with his filly because she is going through a growing phase and he does not want to push her unduly under those circumstances.
