The ten competitors in the 2007 World Drivers Championship and their touring party were at Alexandra Park today to have lunch at the Grand Park Japanese Restaurant and visit the Noel J Taylor New Zealand Trotting Hall Of Fame.
It was only a brief stop-over for the bus-load, who had only just arrived in the morning from Christchurch and were on their way for the two hour journey south to race at Cambridge Raceway this evening.
Harnesslink were lucky enough to be invited along to meet the drivers and take photos and what a humbling experience it was.
It seemed odd meeting the Miller brothers from America - driver Andy with 5,546 winners under his belt and trainer Ervin with 408 winners this year alone - in the dimly-lit, quiet setting of the Trotting Hall Of Fame when they are so commonly associated with plying their trade on a stage as big as The Meadowlands.
Between them, the 10 drivers have piloted more than 24,000 winners in their careers and range in age from 23 (Langeweg) to 55 (New Zealander Colin De Filippi).
