Wynd Creek overcame the toughest trip of all in the Mar. 3 feature harness racing trot at The Raceway at Western Fair for an impressive victory.
Driver Colin Kelly dropped the four-year-old mare back to fifth as Ten Four We Gone (Marc St. Louis) hit the front going around the far turn. St. Louis set a 29.4 first quarter and a soft 1:02.2 half with no outside pressure throughout the first lap. Kelly pulled Wynd Creek first up and marched to third by the three-quarters in 1:32.3.
Despite the leader-favouring fractions, the daughter of Explosive Matter dug in down the stretch and reached up to win by a head in 2:02.2. Ten Four We Gone was narrowly defeated in second, and Rose Run Unclebuck (Travis Henry) finished third after a pocket trip.
Wynd Creek has now won seven races from 28 starts and earned more than $40,000 lifetime. Katelyn Graham of Guelph owns and trains the mare.
