Trois-Rivieres, QC – The Quebec Jockey Club hosted the second round of the Future Stars Series at the Hippodrome 3R Sunday and the biggest romp of the day came in the third race, first division of the Future Stars Series for the colts as YS Do It Right, the overwhelming 1/9 race favorite, did not disappoint his fans.
Leaving from post three, driver Stephane Brosseau sent YS Do It Right to the lead and the race was pretty much over with. YS Do It Right cut fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.2, increasing his lead by each quarter mile until he strolled home a ten and one-half length winner in 1:56.4. That was the fastest victory of the four divisions Sunday.
The pocket-sitting Colonel Bayama (Sylvain Filion) was second with Moonbeam Godro (Pascal Berube) third.
It was the maiden victory for YS Do It Right after four lifetime starts. The colt by Bettor's Delight is bred and owned by Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, trained by Francis Richard and paid just $2.10 to win.
In the sixth race second colt division, it was a very determined Sylvain Filion who took Cadillac Bayama three-wide to grab the lead at the opening quarter mile in :28.3.
From there it was not much of a contest as Cadillac Bayama cut easy fractions and breezed home a one length winner in 1:59.1. The Light Speed (Simon Delisle) was second with Godro Outofhisway (Pierre Luc Roy) third.
A winner in three of his four lifetime starts, Cadillac Bayama is sired by Sunshine Beach, trained, owned and bred by Yves Filion and his Bayama Farms of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil. He paid $2.10 to win.
Driver Sylvain Filion made his trip back to H3R even more enjoyable as he scored a driving triple, winning the eighth race, second division of the Future Stars Series for the pacing fillies.
Leaving from post two, Celia Bayama was the overwhelming 1/5 race favorite and raced that way, wiring the field with ease, cutting fractions of :29.1, :59.4, 1:29.1 and then closed with a burst of speed to win by four and one-half lengths in 1:57.4.
It was a lifetime mark for the daughter of Bettor's Delight and her second win in five starts. She is owned, bred and trained by Yves Filion for the Bayama Farms. She paid $2.40 to win.
A real dogfight took place in the fourth race, the first division of the Future Stars Series for the fillies.
The race favorite, YS Downonthebeach and driver Sylvain Filion, went right to the early lead with Shanghaibluebeach (Pierre Luc Roy) sitting the pocket trip to the opening quarter in :28.1.
Before the half mile marker in :59, driver Stephane Brosseau came first-over with CL Sportsextreme and battled head and head with YS Downonthebeach until midway in the backstretch when Brosseau dropped CL Sportsextreme into the two-hole by the three-quarters in 1:27. After a short breather, Brosseau asked CL Sportsextreme to go first-over again.
With YS Downonthebeach still in control of the race, CL Sportsextreme wore her down in the stretch and then held off a late charge by Platine Alpha (Carol Voyer) to win by a long neck in 1:58. YS Downonthebeach was third.
Sired by Sportswriter, it was the third win in five lifetime starts for CL Sportsextreme. She is trained by Dany Fontaine for the Leblanc Stable, Inc. of Saint-Eustache and paid $5.80 to win.
Track Notes: Sylvain Filion led all drivers with his triple. Trainers Yves Filion and Francis Richard each had doubles. Live racing resumes at H3R next Friday at 4:00 pm.
