A copybook drive from Grenfell reinsman Mark Hewitt saw six-year-old gelding Mickilla Express lead throughout to score a comfortable win at the Young Harness Racing Club meeting on Tuesday.
Hewitt drove the six year-old straight through to hold the lead when the arms of the mobile went back and the gelding lead with his ears pricked after the first quarter in slick time.
Rated perfectly by Hewitt Mickilla Express had the opposition chasing turning for home and Hewitt had time to take several looks over his shoulder to ensure he had the opposition covered before taking Mickilla Express to a 3.2 metre victory over Taylah Studleigh (Leigh Davis) in second position with Allnight Raid (Bernie Hewitt) 6.4 metres away in third place.
Owned by Michael Hunter and Alan Johnson Mickilla Express is now the winner of seven races, the Strong Life pacer recorded a mile rate of 2:01.3 and returned a healthy $7.50 on the NSW TAB.
Tuesday’s victory was Mickilla Express’s second this season from 16 starts.
He has now amassed $32,370 in prizemoney from a career which has spanned 44 starts and also includes 11 minor placings.
This season has been a profitable one with the $3300 first prizemoney from Tuesday night’s win seeing the six year-old add just over $10,000 in prizemoney to his career earnings.
