Nathan Purdon is packing his bags and getting ready for the trip of a lifetime.

The young trainer is set to leave his home in New Zealand and land here in Australia early next week before setting up his new base at Dean Braun’s Lara property.

Purdon, who is the son of champion Kiwi trainer/driver Mark, is waving goodbye to his successful partnership with Chrissie Dalgety and looking to establish himself right here in Victoria.

He spoke with Andrew Bensley on SEN Track this week and revealed his desire to hit the ground running with starters in the coming weeks.

“We are lucky enough that we will start off with five or six when we land so that's a big help,” he said.

“They are sort of two and three-year-olds for the start off and then hopefully we can go to the yearling sales there and spec a few out.

“Hopefully we can get a few up-and-going horses from over in New Zealand and bring them over and do a job with them….”

Purdon said Lara would be a great base to kick off given his long association with Braun.

“While I was over there I spent close to 12 months with Dean. It was great. The facilities are good, everything is there so I'm very lucky in the way I don’t have to outlay anything to set up and get any gear etcetera. It's all there. He's been very good,” Purdon said.
