Prior to harness racing driver Zeke Parker hitting the dirt in a NYSS late closer on Wednesday, Sept. 28 he had a six win lead in races won over Bruce Aldrich, Jr.at Monticello Raceway this season.
That day before the accident in race eight , Zeke had two winners but Aldrich, who drove in 14 of the 15 races countered with five victories.
Still sore from being thrown to the track, Parker sat out and took himself off the 12 horses he was carded to drive on Thursday, Sept. 29. However that move turned out to be profitable for Aldrich who reined three more winners that afternoon.
When the two teamsters resume racing on Monday, October 3 Aldrich will head into the week with a two win lead over Parker; 291 to 289.
Asked if he felt bad that he was winning while Parker was sitting Aldrich replied: “Since I know Zeke wasn’t hurt I don’t feel bad at all driving while he isn’t. We’re good friends and he knows I’m trying to beat him for the (driving) title. I need every break that comes my way to get the best of him.”
A call to Parker concerning “the battle” was not returned.
