This year’s Balanced Image Trot will include a series record final purse of $70,600 dollars.
When the series was split in 2012, the colts and fillies competed for a combined $74,000 dollars in two final purses, but this is the highest single purse final in the series. A total of 147 two year old trotters made the nomination payment back in April, and just 28 of those horses will compete in the championship which starts this Saturday night at Hanover Raceway.
Among those to watch will be Mandeville. This son of Majestic Son is in 1st place in the OSS Grassroots colt standings with 3 wins and a 2nd place finish in 5 starts and has already earned over 31,000 dollars for his owners Wayne Langille of Harley Ontario, and Brett Burleigh of Paris, Ont.
Another top contender will be Freddie. This is another Majestic Son youngster who has 2 wins and a 2nd place finish in 5 grassroots starts for owners Fred Brayford of Alliston and Debbie Element of Waterdown, Ontario.
This year’s field will see the colts compete against some top OSS Fillies. Gee Okeeffe currently sits in 7th place in the OSS Filly Gold standings. This 2 year old daughter of Holiday Road has a win and a 2nd in the OSS gold and she also won her only OSS grassroots start. Gee Okeeffe is the fields top money earner with close to 60,000 dollars earned for owners Wilbur Lang and Chris Beaver both from Ohio.
Another top filly is Judy the Beauty, who is 2nd in the Filly Grassroots standings with 2 wins and 2 second place finishes this year, for owner Randy Zhok of Dover Centre.
Finally, there are a few local horses competing as well including Platoon Seelster for owners Caroline Holiday of Mount Forest and Dennis Hannath of Harriston. Father in law Dave Holliday trains the 2 year old and husband Ryan Holiday drives the son of Federal Flex. This 2 year old has a 2nd place finish in 1 Gold OSS start so far.
And finally another local contender is Hillbilly King for Jayne Walker and Tom Smith of Holland Centre. This son of Mutineer has just 2 starts including a 5th place finish in the OSS Grassroots at Grand River on July 30th.
The top 2 horses in each of the 4 divisions will return on August 30th for the $70,600 dollar final on Saturday August 30th. Post time at Hanover Raceway is 7:15pm.
