WASHINGTON, PA, Oct. 18, 2016 — Dismissed at 21-1 and buried in last, Barn Girl blazed wide through the stretch to pull off the harness racing upset in Tuesday's $20,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot.
Although Barn Girl trailed by 5 lengths into the final turn, a lively 1:24.3 three-quarters left the leaders vulnerable. When Dan Rawlings showed racetrack to the 4-year-old daughter of Cash Hall-Turquoise Sweetie, she circled the field and edged She Wore Red by a nose in 1:54.4. Anaffairtoremember finished third.
Ron Burke trains Barn Girl, who extended her lifetime bankroll to $315,146, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Phillip Collura.
Elsewhere on the card, Doug Snyder vaulted over $30 million in career purses when he guided Call To Post to victory in a conditioned trot.
Snyder, 65, has amassed 6,443 winning drives and 400 training victories in his distinguished career.
Call To Post achieved a milestone as well; the 7-year-old Tom Ridge-Poster Princess gelding, trained by Dane Snyder for Danielle Snyder, became a $300,000 performer with the victory.
Jim Pantaleano piloted four winners on the 14-race program, giving him seven over the last two cards.
