WASHINGTON, PA, April 10, 2018 — Freeze Line rallied from worst to first to spring a 15-1 upset in Tuesday's second leg of the Ben Wood Memorial Trot for harness racing 3-year-old colts and geldings at The Meadows. Mr Contestant took the other $15,000 division to give Tony Hall, trainer Rich Gillock and owner/breeder Bob Key a second-leg sweep.
On Saturday afternoon, April 21, The Meadows will host the $25,000 (est) finals of four current late-closer series, including the Ben Wood.
Freeze Line trailed by 5 lengths when he launched his sustained move. The son of Donato Hanover-American Frost overtook his stablemate, Agent Mac, in deep stretch and downed him by a head in a career-best 1:58.2. Crown Court finished third.
In the $18,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace, Dover Downs invader Divas Image scored a front-end victory in 1:52.2 for Aaron Merriman, trainer Jennifer Bongiorno and owners Our Horse Cents Stables, Stable 45 and J&T Silva Stables. The 5-year-old daughter of Bettor's Delight-Rocknroll Diva extended her career bankroll to $353,682. It was one of three wins on the 13-race card for Merriman.
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has doubled — to $10,000 — the total-pool guarantee for its Wednesday, April 11 Pick 5 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.
While $5,000 Pick 5 guarantees are offered each card, The Meadows upped the ante when Tuesday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a carryover of $3,320.50.
In addition, Wednesday’s card includes a $7,500 total-pool guarantee for the Pick 4, also a regular feature of each program at The Meadows.
Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 9-13) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.
First post Wednesday is 1:05 PM.
