The Maryland sired 2 YO colt and gelding trotters opened the night with the "Ronald 'Doc' Banning Memorial going for a purse of $42,000 at Ocean Downs Sunday.
Doggone Slots (Doggone Yankee-Juanna Play Slots) sat third thru the half when driver . pulled and took the lead from Here I Am(Cam's Rocket).
It was a three-horse race down the stretch with Doggone Slots winning by a length over Jay Boy (Tsunami) and Her I Am held on for third, Time for the mile was 2:01.3. Thomas Morris Jr. trains and co-owns with Gregg Morris. This colt winning was a fitting tribute to Doc Banning since he was the breeder and owner of the second dam I Juanna Win.
The "Hubert Jackson Memorial" for filly pacers was next on the card. The Winbak Farm owned Jodi's Sweety(-Queen Jodi) pulled an upset, breaking the three race win streak of Helaine's Firebird(Allie's Western), winning by a head in 2:02.1. trained and drove the filly.
In another upset, Toms Tornado(Cam's Rocket-Nuclear Folks) won in 1:56.4 breaking stablemate Toms Typhoon(Cam's Rocket) five race win streak in the "W.W. 'Pete' Shaw Memorial. Thomas Cooke owns both colts and Roger Hans trains.was in the bike.
There was no surprise in the "Charles Keller Memorial" whenwent to the front and never looked back with Renegade Starlet(CR Renegade-Worthy Starlet) extending her win streak to 3. Tui Stone trains the filly for the Serendipity Stable, time of the mile was 2:05.4.
The Maryland Sire Stakes for two year olds will finish the season with a series on September 23 and September 30 at Rosecroft Raceway.
