WASHINGTON, PA, Jan. 24, 2014 -- Despite a layoff of 5-1/2 months, Visible Gold grabbed the lead at the three-quarters and held on late to capture Friday's $15,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life Pace at The Meadows.

Visible Gold was enjoying a pocket trip when Dave Palone sent him after the leader, Eddie Sweat. The 6-year-old Bettor's Delight-Gabrielle gelding showed his toughness when he thwarted the rallying Drumfire A in deep stretch and defeated him by a head in 1:54.3 on a "slow" surface. The first-over PL Dragon was a game third.

Run Burke trains Visible Gold, who won 12 of 18 starts last year, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and RTC Stables.

Aaron Merriman, Brett Miller and Palone each drove three winners on the 15-race card.
