Delaware, Ohio – Resistance Futile most certainly lived up to his name in crushing the field in the third elimination heat of the Little Brown Jug Thursday at the Delaware County Fair, scoring a 1:49.4 victory in a romp by five and one-half lengths.

Driven by Corey Callahan, Resistance Futile did it the hard way, having to race first-over from the half mile and grinding it out as a 24-1 long shot in the race.

The 15th race began with a dog fight as both Sunfire Blue Chip (Yannick Gingras) parked out Johny Rock (Andy Miller) to the opening quarter mile in :26 and forced Johny Rock to go into the two-hold. Then coming to the half mile marker Callahan came first-over with Resistance Futile and grabbing the second-over cover was Twilight Bonfire (John Campbell) and they sped by the half in :55.2.

Then in the backstretch Resistance Futile kept inching his way forward against Sunfire Blue Chip and before the last turn Sunfire Blue Chip began to fade and backed into Johny Rock who was hopelessly blocked in.

At the three-quarters in 1:22.2, Resistance Futile had cleared to the lead and just kept drawing away from the field as he raced to the finish. Odds On Equuleus (Tim Tetrick) was able to close for second with Sunfire Blue Chip holding on for third place.

“It was the first time I ever drove this horse,” Callahan said, “And it is my first Jug (heat) victory. I was real happy to be able to have cleared by the final turn and he was great from there.”

Sired by Real Desire and trained by Blair Burgress, it was the seventh win in 18 starts this year. Resistance Futile is owned by the Bluegrass Stable, JH Walker and Deo Volente Farms of Ontario and New Jersey. At 24-1 he paid $50.00 to win.

“He has not raced well on a half,” Burgress said, “But I would have to say now that he likes this half mile track.”

Resistance Futile is a son of Capelo Rose who is a Camluck daughter of former superstar New Zealand mare Tuepelo Rose. Resistance Futile is her third foal and third winner. Her second foal is Marcepelo (Mach Three) who is the winner of $558,213 (p2;1-51.3) to date.
