Cream Ridge, NJ – 12/13/19 – The Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) is sorting through offers of help for some of the 53 horses tagged to ship to slaughter which is expected to be Monday, December 19, 2019. As of today, it appears that 25 are still in need. This is being confirmed as a few were purchased directly from the kill pen. The kill pen also pulled some from this group to ship anyway, as their other loads of horses were short and they wanted to fill the space. SRF is awaiting confirmation.
Homes are desperately needed, whether a horse is purchased directly from the pen, or through SRF. Without homes the only help SRF can provide will depend on the available donations. SRF has 376 trotters and pacers already under its expense, it cannot take on any more financial obligations. This is a very difficult decision especially when looking at the fear in the eyes of these horses.
How to Help:
Take one from the kill pen directly: There is a price on most of the horses, prices vary from $650-$800 Their soundness is unknown, but typical of the breed, they are extremely well mannered, very sweet, and have wonderful temperaments. The list of horses is on our website at Adoptahorse.org. To take directly send payment through PayPal to CROTZ92@gmail.com, then text (717) 360-8557 to arrange pick up of bailed horse (please no harassing the pen, let's just help these horses right now).
There is room at a boarding facility for quarantine, and board for those who wish to take a horse, but please do not expect that SRF can take the horse in the future. Please help with full understanding of a commitment to an animal. Email SRF for the facility's information.
– Contact SRF to offer a home by using this link for an application to adopt.
-Offer a foster home at no charge to SRF; use this link SRF Foster.
How Tax-deductible Donations Will Help…
…SRF can then incur the expenses for horses that may have a foster home offer, some may include paying the kill pen, transport, quarantine, dental care, Veterinary care, hoof care, etc.
…to purchase remaining horses without homes and provide rehabilitation due to feed and care neglect, acute or chronic soreness or lameness.
…SRF can take on another only if a full year of expenses are donated, this averages $4,500. If several people help as sponsors this can be accomplished. If any of our current horses have new sponsors, we can take another in as well. Sponsor a horse
Should horses be left without homes, and donations are not able to cover expenses for a year, humane euthanasia may be an option, as this is less inhumane then shipping for slaughter. If it comes to this SRF will release a statement and ask for help.
These horses have given so much. Every bit of help for them will change their lives. To contact SRF with any questions please use srfhorsesandkids@gmail, or call 609-738-3255.
