Great progress has been made creating the new Shenandoah Downs at the former harness racing fairgrounds at Woodstock, VA.
Well located at the I81 Woodstock exit, with superb visibility, the new pari-mutuel wagering racetrack is also close to I66 that connects directly with the growing Washington DC metro.
The creation of the Virginia Downs Foundation and Virginia Equine Alliance, that will operate the race meet and office under guidance of Jeb Hannum, Executive Director, Shenandoah Downs’ purses will be funded by $800,000 from the Virginia Harness Horsemen’s Association, President Scott Woogen.
The Virginia Racing Commission, under leadership of D.G. Van Clief, issued a limited license to Shenandoah Downs on August 18.
The track will operate on five consecutive weekends starting September 10 with 1:00pm post times on Saturday-Sunday.
As shown below, the $700,000 fairgrounds and racetrack renovation is nearly complete, with great progress in the last month, and is undergoing final testing.
