YONKERS, NY, Monday, July 25, 2016 – To shamelessly plagiarize a term from our thoroughbred brethren, "Win and You're In." Yonkers Raceway has announced that the harness eacing winner of the 62nd Yonkers Trot shall automatically receive a Yonkers International Trot invitation.
Yonkers Trot goes Saturday night, Sept. 3, while Yonkers International Trot is set for Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15.
"These are two of the premier trotting events in the sport, and we felt the 3-year-old who wins our Yonkers Trot deserves a chance to be on the gate with the world's best," Raceway CO Bob Galterio said.
"We are compiling a list of some outstanding horses for our Yonkers International Trot," race secretary Steve Starr said. "Unfortunately, last season's winner, Papagayo E, is injured and won't be able to defend his title, but there's going to be a very strong field nonetheless."
More information about the 2016 Yonkers International Trot shall be announced shortly.
