WASHINGTON, PA, May 31, 2016 – Leaving from an inside post position for the first time in more than a month, Barn Girl followed live cover and turned it on late to score in 1:53.3 — a harness racing career best — in Tuesday's $20,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Barn Girl started from post 8 or 9 in her four most recent races and still managed to hit the board in three of those outings. She left from the rail Tuesday but was sitting seventh when Jim Pantaleano moved her behind the first-over Ras Shakinthtbacon. The 4-year-old daughter of Cash Hall-Turquoise Sweetie peeled off cover around the final turn and tracked down the leader, Smokinmombo, defeating her by a neck. She Nuit finished third.
Ron Burke trains Barn Girl, who extended her career bankroll to $269,156, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Phillip Collura.
Dave Palone piloted four winners on the 14-race card.
