Ray was born in Dunedin and followed the harness racing avidly until moving to Gisborne where he spent twenty six years. While in Gisborne he raced several gallopers and achieved two group 1 wins with Steely Dan. Other horses raced with success were Street Hawk. Adonis and Cinnamon Queen. With Gisbornes situation trotting ownership was not practible but in 2000 he joined the Auckland trotting club 2000. Syndicate which raced Matai McKenzie and Parisian Falcon and Diana have been syndicate member of five ATC Syndicate including the 2006 syndicate who owns Changeover.

Diana has had a life long interest in horses with a start in Pony Club up to active competing in show jumping and evening. She has trained gallopers and in a licence holder in the standardbred industry. All of her four children are involved in horse either Pony Club, hunting or kids Kertz.

In 2002 we decided to have a change of lifestyle and sold our sheep and cattle farm and decided to breed standardbreds. We have had four sales and the oldest progeny are fours year olds.
